ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS
Heather White and Lori Joyce
Entrepreneurs and Cupcakes’ creators Heather White and Lori Joyce opened their first bakery in April 2002 on Denman Street in Vancouver BC’s West End and it remains their flagship location. The unique business marked with nostalgic trademark colours of icing pink, soft vanilla and rich chocolaty brown evokes childhood memories of sugary birthday parties.
Their first Cupcakes bakery thrived and they opened another location on West Broadway – Lori and Heather now have three corporate bakeries and three franchise bakeries across Vancouver’s Lower Mainland.
While they both share the drive and determination to succeed, Heather’s strengths can be seen in the attention to detail required to successfully brand and market the Cupcakes’ product lines, while Lori focuses her drive on the exciting opportunities created by their bold decision to franchise the Cupcakes brand that they have both worked so hard to create.
The company has four divisions: retail, corporate, weddings and wholesale, and employs 50 to 60 people depending on the season. Each location bakes their cupcakes from scratch daily and all of the baked goods are made from preservative-free, basic ingredients. They also offer delectable retro-styled and custom cakes and cupcakes for weddings, birthdays, special events… or just to indulge.
In 2009, Heather and Lori began production on the new documentary series about their hardworking yet hilarious behind-the-scenes lives at Cupcakes, full of the laughs, the excitement and the highs and lows of expanding a business. Vancouver-based Force Four Entertainment is producing the 13-episode documentary series slated to air on Corus Entertainment’s W Network in January 2010.
